Our
History
Marywood was established in 1921 in
response to a need expressed by St. Austin's Parish to provide
care for abandoned and neglected babies. The Ladies of
Charity and Seton administrator, Sister Ursula Fenton, formed
the Home of the Holy Infancy. The
Daughters of Charity assisted the Ladies to care for these
infants in a home on Salado St. near the original Seton
Hospital.
In 1977, Bishop Vincent Harris
appointed a lay governing board and Marywood began operating
under an independent Board of Directors.
The home's original mission was to
provide adoption and maternity services to women
experiencing unplanned pregnancies. As Marywood grew and
community needs changed, so did
its programs. |

Marywood offers foster
care and adoption services, pregnancy and parenting resources,
individual and family counseling, and a residential
program for young women and their
children. |
